To all within the Corner Canyon Stake Boundary,
An ancient king taught his people a great discourse on life and community and then ended with an admonition to “remember, and perish not." (Mosiah 4:30)
It has been suggested that ”remember” may be the most important word in the dictionary. We remember and are inspired by the temple stonecutter John Rowe Moyle. He was a handcart pioneer who walked 22 miles (with a wooden leg) to the SLC temple from Alpine every week to work. His amazing story is referred to in an LDS movie called Only a Stonecutter. Why was he willing to sacrifice so much to work on the house of the Lord? What life lessons can we learn from his story? What is it about this journey that has inspired many to recreate a Temple to Temple journey? This is what we want to experience with our women.
Physically, our challenge is only half the distance: 13 miles through the Corner Canyon from Temple to Temple on Saturday morning, September 8, 2012. Our biggest concern is preparation and safety and we are planning our hike in detail to ensure a safe return and provide an experience the ladies will never forget.
We realize that any undertaking of this magnitude will require the support of the community. If you are willing to volunteer in any way for this activity please let us know. We will need support at aide stations, donations (food, fruit, drink), drivers and bicycle safety people. We encourage you, family members and friends to talk about the importance of temples and the blessings that can come from the temple.
In preparation for our journey, we encourage all women to have appropriate shoes and socks to wear during hikes and walks. Each YW was given a training schedule to help her prepare for the 13 mile hike. We encourage parents, relatives and friends to walk with each other as they train. We encourage you to plan activities up until Sept. 8th will be walking and hiking as a group and/or class.
